Case study
Installing Compartmentation for Sovereign Housing
Works: Fire Compartmentation Works
Situation
A programme of certified fire door replacements based on initial surveys conducted by our in-house team of passive fire surveyors. These were recognised certified installs to the manufacturer and installer schemes; including flat entrance doors, internal communal doors, cross-corridor doors, kitchen doors, escape route doors and service cupboard doors.
Solution
Due to the dispersed nature of Sovereign Housing stock, we assigned 3 of our specialist Project Managers to maintain high standards of quality across their properties and ensure this level of Management from Ventro demonstrated regular involvement throughout the delivery. This also allowed a more personable approach to communicating with the residents in the Assisted Living schemes where this project took place. Due to the nature of this project a timescale of 6 weeks per property was allocated, which was adhered to throughout.

Challenges
Working during the pandemic provided its own challenges. The client provided an area within their communal facilities that was securely sectioned off to protect staff and residents. Ventro staff made sure to wear PPE and increased sanitary provisions around the sites.
Golden Thread
Throughout the project “Hilti” was used for the purpose of reporting. On this the client could view progress images from the site. Once the works were completed these images were complied with any certificates and product data sheets to complete the final report. Using the Hilti system helped create a golden thread for the client to refer to when needed and kept everything logged electronically.
Procurement
The project was awarded through procurement process of a framework. The direct award allowed Sovereign the ability to pick who they wished to partner with for the project whilst the framework provided added confidence of Ventro’s abilities as due diligence has previously been conducted.
Added Value
The local fire service had audited the John Eddie Court residence and completed a report
on compartmentation. This meant we faced added scrutiny following our installation works.
However, we passed their assessment with satisfactory justification of all firestopping measures
and compartmentation achieved.
