Key Speakers

Operational Policy Advisor

Josh Paulin has worked in operational policy and operational delivery for a number of years. Having originally trained as a scientist, he has worked within the NHS, in public policy for the New Zealand Government, before joining the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) as an Operational Policy Advisor in 2023.

Within BSR he has worked on resident engagement policy for the in-occupation team, focusing on helping industry understand the new resident engagement duties introduced by the Building Safety Act. Now as a member of the building control team he helps BSR’s operational teams with interpretation of the legislation and regulations, and regularly engages with industry to help inform about expectations within the new regulator.

With seven years of dedicated experience in fire safety, Steven Wilson is the Technical Director at Ventro Group. A true industry expert, Steven specialises in fire safety legislation, offering a profound understanding of regulatory frameworks. His adeptness in crafting bespoke fire safety solutions tailored to diverse environments underscores Ventro's commitment to excellence and finding the correct solution.

Steven's comprehensive knowledge extends to the latest fire safety products, ensuring Ventro remains at the forefront of technological advancements. Recognised for his leadership, Steven frequently speaks at conferences, sharing insights that reflect his passion for fostering fire safety awareness. Technical Manager

Robert joined the FIA team in 2002 having previously worked for BSI being responsible for National, European and International Fire Committees for fire extinguishing (FSH/18, CEN /TC191), fire detection and alarms (FSH/12, CEN /TC72), Fire Brigade Equipment (FSH/17, CEN /TC192) Portable Fire Extinguishers (FSH/2) and was one of the founding members of CEN/CLC/TC 4. 

Robert remains the current Chair of FSH/18 Fixed Fire Fighting Systems and CEN /TC191 Fixed Fire Fighting Systems, FSH/16 Hazards to life from fire, FSS/0 Services in fire and security and convenor of ISO/TC21/SC8/WG5 which is responsible for ISO 14520-1 Gaseous extinguishing systems and of ISO/TC21/SC8/WG8 which is responsible for ISO 6813 CO2 extinguishing systems.  

Robert chairs the FIA Lithium Battery Special Interest Group which brings together experts from all interested parties related to lithium-ion battery fires. He is also the Secretary for the Extinguishing and Services Councils in FIA.  In Euralarm he is the Chair of the Services Section a Euralarm Board member.
