Fire Rated Cladding Systems

You have been able to see the importance of fire safety and making sure that systems are put in place for when fires do occur because you never know when they will happen, you just have to be prepared. And we can't stress that enough.

Fire protection on the outside of a building is as important as the inside of a building. It is important that buildings are constructed using a fire rated cladding system that is made up of non-combustible materials, of which has been fitted correctly to the building so that no voids are created. This cladding should have fire breaks within the cladding at each floor level and fire rated partition walls to reflect the internal fire compartmentation.

Without these passive fire protection elements having been installed correctly, the cladding may operate as a conductor in the case of a fire which will allow the fire to spread out of control and up the facade of the building.

For those with high-rise properties, it is highly important to make sure cladding is fire rated and that there are sufficient working passive and active fire prevention systems in place in case of the event of a fire. These systems are a highly effective way to control and slow down the spread of a fire which in turn reduces the cost of fire damage, increases residents time to escape, and gives fire rescue teams more time to get to the fire.

Certified Cladding Testing

Ventro is working with a fully certified test centre which enables us to get cladding samples from our clients to send off for testing. Making sure that the building's cladding is fire rated and meet all of the certified requirements. Our team carefully remove appropriate samples which meet the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) specification. The samples are sent off to be tested and a report is then processed with the findings for each sample provided.

Testing is undertaken in a fully controlled environment which is in accordance with all of the DCLG guidelines where appropriate, and a full United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) accredited report is produced on the Fire Combustibility of the material that has been tested for each building.

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS)

UKAS is the National Accreditation Body which was appointed by the government to assess organisations that provide certification, testing, inspection and calibration services, against internationally agreed standards. The body supports government across a range of policy areas and the accreditation can be applied to any policy area in which there is a requirement for compliance to be assessed.

The UK's Building Regulations Competent Person Scheme (CPS) is a scheme that is fully supported by UKAS and has been approved by the DCLG and the Welsh Government for several years now. Businesses certified under the CPS scheme are able to self-certify their work without going through a local authority building control officer which ultimately reduces time, costs and increases efficiency.
